Republic FC Continues to Bolster Midfield with Arturo Rodriguez
Republic FC has announced another signing to add to their midfield with Arturo Rodriguez. This deal is pending league and federation approval.
Rodriguez spent the past three seasons with the Charleston Battery. Over that span, he had 94 appearances with 13 goals and 16 assists to his name. Importantly, Rodriguez also generated 134 scoring chances, good for eighth in the league over that time span. The Battery benefitted from having Rodriguez in the lineup as they made the postseason every time over the past three season. This includes back-to-back Eastern Conference finals appearances, with them earning the Conference Championship in 2023. This was the year that they faced Phoenix in the championship final where they ultimately fell in the penalty shootout.
Arturo got his start in the FC Dallas Youth system, and got his first professional deal with FC Dallas' USL League One affiliate North Texas SC. As a rookie, he earned the League One MVP and Young Player of the Year, and this was based off him getting 10 assists that season to clinch the league's Golden Playmaker Award. To go along with those assists, he had eight goals on the campaign, including the championship clinching goal to give North Texas the championship trophy.
Rodriguez has made appearances with Real Monarchs and Phoenix Rising, along with the Charleston Battery. And he has tallied 19 goals and 24 assists in 143 appearances. And now Sacramento will be the next stop in Arturo's career.
Republic FC Head Coach Neill Collins on the signing: “Arturo is a very versatile, attacking-minded player who has that creative spark we’ve been looking to add. He’s been at the core of some very successful teams in our league and we’re excited that he’s chosen Sacramento as his next home.”
Arturo Rodriguez on coming to Sacramento: "My family and I are very happy to take this opportunity. With the organization, fans, and stadium, Sacramento has all of the tools to achieve success and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
The Republic is kind of cooking this offseason. Arturo will fill in the creative gap in the midfield left behind by Rodrigo Lopez. And then pair him with a defensive stalwart in Danny Crisostomo and a target with Forster Ajago in front of him. The vision from Neill Collins is starting to take shape. And you also have returning players like Blake Willey as a weapon in the midfield. Rodriguez has a variety of tools at his disposal and he can pop up anywhere in the attacking half of the field. He can whip in a cross from out wide but also play an incisive pass down the middle of the park. Rodriguez should be the player that the Republic's attack flows through. He needs to be on the ball in the build-up to every Republic attack and let him work his magic.
Welcome to the club, Arturo!
