Todd Dunivant Departs the Republic For NYCFC

Per the reporting of Tom Bogert and The Athletic, it was announced Monday evening that Todd Dunivant would be departing the Republic to join NYCFC. Dunivant would be joining the MLS side as their Chief Soccer Officer.

Dunivant has been with the Republic since 2018 as the club's general manager and was later named club president in 2021. This was after Ben Gumpert stepped down as club president and COO.

This year, NYCFC finished 5th in the MLS Eastern Conference and reached the Conference Finals before losing to Inter Miami. The roster is led by USMNT goalkeeper Matt Freese and captained by centerback Thiago Martins. Last season's leading goal-scorer, Alonso Martinez, who scored 17 goals in the regular season, tore his ACL and is questionable for a return this upcoming season.

Wishing Todd the best of luck in New York.

But now there is a big hole in the Republic's front office that must be filled. This opening presents a test for the new ownership group of the club in selecting who will fill Dunivant's shoes. Dunivant oversaw an era of consistency with the Republic as the team failed to reach the postseason only once under his leadership. Hopefully, the ownership group has someone already in mind to step in sooner rather than later. As the club is currently seeing an overhaul of the attack and midfield and needs someone with a vision who can work with Coach Neill Collins to achieve that. And that is just on the field matters. Off the field, there is the matter of the new stadium on the horizon.

The Republic has always been looked at as an example for other clubs to model themselves after. And that is thanks in no small part to the work Todd Dunivant did as general manager and club president. Sacramento will need someone to capitalize on all the work Dunivant put into this club and take it to another level. And there are opportunities to do so with next season's roster construction and the creation of a new stadium. With all that being said, Dunivant will be a tough man to follow. Thank you for everything.
